1. Never use a metal ladder around any electrical installation.
2. You will probably use an ordinary straight ladder for most purposes.
3. Make sure all parts of the ladder are in good working order, free from corrosion, rust, rot, cracks and other defects.
4. Never use a painted ladder because the paint can hide defects.
5. Raising an extension ladder is a one-person job.
6. A straight ladder should be placed against the wall at an angle so that the base of the ladder is one foot away from the wall for every four feet of height.
7. Stay off outdoor ladders during bad weather such as rain, wind or lightning.
